I found doorknobs to be very utilitarian and not much more. On the other hand, by comparison, I consider doorhandles to be functional luxury. All the doorknobs in our home have been upgraded with Kwikset doorhandles. If you've never lived with doorhandles, after being installed, you'll find doorhandles quickly become a functional necessity as opposed to being considered an upgraded luxury. Why? Because of the ease in opening a door when in possession of a full armload of goodies. This, of course, is in comparison to the difficulty of trying to operate a doorknob while in possession of the same aforementioned armload of goodies. :) Important note: there are three grades of door hardware of this kind; ANSI Grade 3, ANSI Grade 2 and ANSI Grade 1.
